2016 Cerritos College Hall of Fame Inductees

Distinguished Coach - Jack Bogdanovich (Basketball) - Bogdanovich was the Cerritos College men’s basketball head coach from 1983-1998 after spending 11 years as a Falcon assistant coach. In his first season as head coach, Bogdanovich guided his team to their first of three state championships under his tutelage. He posted a 411-92 (.821 winning percentage) record and led his teams to 10 South Coast Conference championships as a head coach and three more as an assistant coach. Six of his teams also advanced to the state tournament, while he won over 20 games in each of his 15 seasons as head coach. For his efforts, Bogdanovich was named the conference’s Coach of the Year six times and was inducted into the Community College Hall of Fame and is a San Pedro Walk of Fame Inductee. In his time as head coach, 98 of his student-athletes earned scholarships to four-year institutions.








Distinguished Male Athlete - Danny Garcia (Water Polo/Swimming) - The most prolific goal scorer in Cerritos College men’s water polo history in his era, Garcia scored 199 goals in his career (2001 & 2003 – since broken), which included a school record 103 goals (since broken) in his freshman season. Garcia was the catalyst to the resurgence of the Falcon water polo program, as he helped lead the team to the Southern California Regional Playoffs both seasons, which led to the team reaching the post-season 12 of the last 13 years and a trio of State Tournament appearances. He was a two-time All-American selection and parlayed that into a scholarship to Cal State Long Beach. Upon graduation from Cal State Long Beach with a degree in biology, Garcia took on the position of strength and conditioning coach with the Falcons and also served as an assistant coach. He continued his education at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and graduated with honors four years later. Dr. Garcia is currently a successful chiropractor in Costa Mesa.







Distinguished Female Athlete - Teresa Velazquez (Volleyball) - Arguably one of the best volleyball player in Cerritos College history, Velazquez was the school’s first All-American player – a two-time selection (1989-90) – while earning the state’s Player of the Year honor her sophomore season. During the 1989 season, Velazquez was the #1 hitter in the nation with 570 kills and it was the beginning of a decade of powerful Cerritos teams. Her following year produced 499 kills, which remain as the top two totals in school history, as are her 1,069 career kills. Velazquez helped lead the team to the state tournament both years, with the Falcons placing fifth place her freshman year and fourth in her sophomore season, while they also won the South Coast Conference title.  Upon completing her sophomore year, Velazquez spent the remainder of her playing career competing in international tournaments. She joined the Falcon coaching staff in 1993 before taking over as the head coach in 2000 and has led her teams to the Southern California Regional Playoffs eight times. She just completed her final season as the program's head coach.
