Three-time California Community College Athletic Association state champion and former Olympian Ameer Webb will compete in the 200 meters at the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar in late September. Webb, who won the CCCAA state championship in the 200 meters in 2010-11 and the 100 meters in 2011 for the Falcons, was also the Indoor and Outdoor NCAA National Champion in the 200 meters at Texas A&M University in 2013. He still holds the school record for Cerritos in the 100 meters (10.16) and 200 meters (20.33).
Webb went on to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games, where he reached the semifinals in the 200 meters after running a career-best 20.00. In his history, Webb has also won the 200 meters at the 2017 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 20.09 seconds, which qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Athletics. At the US World Championships in Des Moines, IA earlier in the year, Webb finished third in the 200 meters (20.45) and seventh in the 100 meters (10.23). The third place finish snapped a two-year streak where he won the US World Championships in the 200 meters.
As for Ashley, she will be representing the United States in the Pan-American Games, which are being held in Lima Peru. A discus specialist, Ashley will compete on August 6.
While with the Falcons, she won the CCCAA State Championship in 2008 in the discus and was a member of two Falcon state championship teams. Ashley defeated the rest of the competition at the 2016 US Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR with a discus throw of 204, feet 2 inches (62.25 meters), which came on her fifth of six throws. She did not record a distance in her two attempts at the Olympic Games. A two-time All-American with Cerritos, Ashley went on to transfer to San Diego State University. With the Aztecs, she won the NCAA National Championship in the discus in 2012. That same year, Ashley qualified for the US Olympic Trails and came in 22nd place.
She went on to place sixth at the 2017 IAAF Diamond League in the discus and qualified for the 2018 IAAF Diamond League final in Brussels.
