
Victories over Cypress College (4-1) and host Mt. San Jacinto College (3-2) on Friday have extended the Cerritos College beach volleyball team's winning streak to five in a row. The Falcons (8-3) will open South Coast Conference play next Friday when they take on host Long Beach City College.
In the win over Cypress, the top pair of sophomore Leeya Rubio (Schurr HS) and freshman Josie Navarro (Sierra Vista HS) recorded a solid 21-15, 21-16 win, with each of the matches going two sets. It was an easy 21-4, 21-6 victory for sophomore Monserrat Rodriguez (Gahr HS) and freshman Rosie Cazares-Gonzalez (El Rancho HS) in the #3 position, while freshman Herlinda Casanova (St. Joseph HS) and sophomore Breanna Lizarraga (Paramount HS) came away with a 21-12, 21-8 win in the #5 position. Also earning a win for the Falcons was the tandem of sophomore Brisa Cortez (Schurr HS) and freshman Nayeli SalasOrtiz (Schurr HS) and their 21-16, 21-13 victory.
The match against the host Eagles was a little closer with the only three-set match going to Mt. San Jacinto, 21-13, 16-21, 12-15 over Cortez and SalasOrtiz. However, the second pair of Rubio and Navarro locked down a 21-17, 21-18 win to get the Falcons started. Casanova, who recently committed to La Sierra University, and her partner, sophomore Juliette Casillas (La Serna HS) secured a 21-10, 21-18 win. Closing out the team win was a 21-11, 21-12 sweep for the pair of Rodriguez and Cazares-Gonzalez.
