In their South Coast Conference opener on Thursday, the Cerritos College baseball team was the victim of an 8-0 shutout by host Chaffey College. The Falcons (1-10, 0-1) will look to snap their six-game losing skid when they host the Panthers at Kincaid Field at noon on Saturday.

After the first two innings, it was a 6-0 Chaffey lead, with the Falcons leaving runners on base in their first two plate appearances. They advanced a runner in the sixth inning, but couldn't drive him in, while a one-out double by freshman outfielder Shea Estrin (West HS) wasn't able to get cashed in. On the day, Cerritos scattered four hits, but were never able to generate any consistent offense.

On the mound, relief pitchers Brian Kossler (Mayfair HS) and Mark Gil (Norwalk HS) limited Chaffey to three runs on four hits over six innings, while they combined to strike out eight batters.
