UPDATE: Nicholas Martinez got the final three outs of the game to secure the win for the Falcons.

Led by an eight-run sixth inning, the Cerritos College baseball team took an 11-8 lead over host Golden West College on Tuesday. The game was suspended after eight innings due to darkness, with the remainder of the game to be played next Tuesday at Kincaid Field when the Rustlers come for their regularly scheduled 2:00 p.m. game. The suspended game will start at 1:30 p.m.

After spotting Golden West a 3-0 lead after two innings, sophomore shortstop Alex Bueno (Centennial, NV HS) stepped up and doubled in a pair of runs to get the Falcons on the board. It was a 6-3 Rustler lead when Cerritos came up in the sixth inning and took a lead they would try to hold the remainder of the game.

Freshman second baseman Andres Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS) led off with a single and moved to second base on a walk to Bueno. A single from sophomore third baseman Richard Castro (Bishop Amat HS/Cal State San Bernardino) loaded the bases for freshman first baseman David Hays (St. John Bosco HS), who drew a run-scoring walk. After a pitching change, sophomore outfielder Bodie Parker (Cajon HS/Chaffey College) was hit by a pitch, which brought in a run, while freshman designated hitter Nolan Brown (Long Beach Poly HS) cleared the bases with a three-run triple. With sophomore outfielder Shea Estrin (West Torrance HS) on third base after reaching on a fielder's choice and stealing a pair of bases, sophomore catcher Owen Beebe (Long Beach Millikan HS/Golden West College) drew a walk. Vega then singled in a run, while Bueno followed with his second two-run double of the game.

Sophomore pitcher Nicholas Martinez (La Serna HS), who came on in relief in the sixth inning, retired the last seven batters after allowing a pair of run in his first inning. He is the pitcher of record at the time the game was suspended.
