Now in his fourth season as the pitching coach on the Falcon coaching staff is Benny Gonzalez. A former All-American pitcher for Cerritos, Gonzalez spent three seasons (2011-13) as the head coach at Bell Gardens High School. His coaching career began in 2003 when he served as an assistant coach at Bell Gardens High, his alma mater. Gonzalez spent two seasons with the Lancers before taking a break from coaching. He got back into baseball in 2009 when he was hired as the head coach at Mayfair High, where he spent two seasons.

During his playing career, Gonzalez was named the league’s Most Valuable Player twice and helped lead his team to three straight league championships. While with the Falcons from 1998-99, he was a part of two South Coast Conference championship teams and was named as an All-American his sophomore season. He posted a career 21-3 record, tossed a no-hitter his freshman year and earned 1st Team All-SCC recognition both seasons. Gonzalez earned a scholarship to Sacramento State University and had earned a spot in the starting rotation before an injury ended his playing career.

Gonzalez, 38, and his wife Carmen reside in Santa Fe Springs and have three children – Miranda (11) and Cassandra (7) and Camila (3).
