Chris Vopinek
Title: Assistant Coach
Year: 1st

Joining the Cerritos College baseball coaching staff for his first season is Chris Vopinek, who spent the last seven seasons as the pitching coach at Cal State Dominguez Hills. A graduate of El Camino College, Vopinek led the South Coast Conference in hitting his sophomore season and helped lead the Warriors to the 3C2A State Tournament in 2010. He then transferred to Cal State Dominguez Hills, where he batted .275 with 10 doubles and 22 RBI as a third baseman. He also appeared in nine games out of the bullpen and allowed just three earned runs in his junior year.

As a pitching coach for the Toros, Vopinek coached five All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selections, including four in 2019, and one all-region within the first three seasons of taking the position.

In 2020, the season was a promising one for the Toros, going 12-10 overall and 11-5 in the CCAA until the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly and disappointedly canceled the remainder of the season. The Toros never lost a CCAA series against four opponents and along the way had won seven straight games for the first time in 10 years. The Toros hurlers owned the fourth-best ERA and strikeouts in the CCAA.

Vopinek prepped at Bellflower High and was named the league's Pitcher of the Year, as well as to the Press Telegram 1st Team Dream Team. He was coached by former Cerritos College baseball player Keith Tripp.
