Returning for his third season to the field where he helped the Cerritos baseball team win a state championship, Darrell Sherman brings over 30 years of playing and coaching experience. After graduating from Lynwood High, Sherman helped the Falcons win a pair of South Coast Conference titles and the 1987 state title in his freshman year. In his two seasons, Cerritos had a combined 84-18 record with 11 players going on to make Major League rosters.

Sherman still holds numerous school records from his 1988 season, where he batted .389 with a school record 74 runs scored, 53 walks 134 times on base and 46 stolen bases. For his efforts, Sherman was named 2nd Team All-American and was a two-time 1st Team all-conference selection.

Sherman, who transferred to Cal State Long Beach and was a 1st Team All-Big West Conference selection, was drafted in the 6th Round by the San Diego Padres in 1989. Sherman was then selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the Rule 5 Draft in 1991 and returned to the Padres in 1992. He reached the Padres major league team in 1993 and batted .222 (14-for-63) with a pair of RBI and stolen bases. Sherman was then selected off waivers by the Colorado Rockies at the conclusion of the 1993 season and remained with them until 1995.

After taking a five-year break, Sherman spent the next seven years playing in the Mexican League for three teams and hit a minimum of .337 each season. He officially retired in 2006 after batting .349 for the Laguna Vaqueros.

Sherman started his coaching career in 2007 as an assistant coach at Long Beach Wilson High, while he spent the 2008 season coaching in the Padres minor league system. From 2009-18, Sherman was a a hitting coach at several levels, including the Tomateros or Culican, who won the league championship in 2018.

Sherman earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Mental Health from the University of Phoenix in 2010 and his Master of Science degree in Marital Family from the University of Phoenix in 2013.

Sherman, 55, has four children – Tanecia (36), Darrell (34), Britney (23) and Christopher (18) and resides in Corona.
