Serving as the team’s pitching coach for his fourth season as a member of the Cerritos College baseball staff is Max Gibbs. From 2018-19, he served as an assistant pitching coach at Golden West College, while he served as the junior varsity pitching coach at Marina High from 2017-18.

Gibbs prepped at Marina High, where he helped his team reach the CIF Championship game and played at Dodger Stadium his senior year. That season, he posted a 3-1 record with a 1.70 ERA and was selected to play in the Orange County All-Star Game.

He then transferred to Cal State Fullerton, where he was a left-handed specialist out of the bullpen and appeared in two College World Series (2015 & 2017). In his sophomore year, he made 28 appearances and recorded 32 strikeouts in 34 innings with a 3.18 ERA and posted a 2-2 record. In that season, he helped the team win the Big West Conference championship and qualified for the College World Series after winning the Louisville Super Regional. The Titans lost both of their games and Gibbs made an appearance against LSU and pitched two innings.

As a junior, they once again won the Big West Conference title and advanced to the Mississippi State Regional, where they won their first game, but were then eliminated. On the year, Gibbs appeared in 15 games and went 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA in 13 innings with 11 strikeouts. The Titans made a return trip to the College World Series his senior season, with Gibbs seeing action in 14 games and went 1-3 with a 7.71 ERA in 9 1/3 innings of work.

Gibbs earned his Bachelor’s degree in Human Services with an Emphasis in Mental Health from Cal State Fullerton in 2017 and is projected to complete his Master’s degree in Coaching & Leadership from Concordia University by the end of 2019.

Gibbs, 28, is single and lives in Huntington Beach.
