It was the quick strike offense of the Cerritos College football team in the first half that helped the team open a 35-7 lead, en route to a road win against Ventura College on Saturday. The Falcons (3-1, 1-0) amassed 408 yards through the first 30 minutes, with sophomore quarterback Jimmy Walker (Redlands HS) throwing for 287 yards and four scores. The end result was a 44-28 win and their largest scoring output of the season. The team will now host Pasadena City College (0-4, 0-1) at 7:00 p.m. next Saturday.

Cerritos opened the scoring on their first drive of the game, with freshman running back Jason Floyd (Lakewood HS) scoring from the 12-yard line. The touchdown came one play after the Pirates were called for pass interference. Ventura tied the game on their first play from scrimmage when running back Jake Mann found a wide open Cam Taylor for a 63-yard touchdown pass.

Walker threw the first of his four scoring strikes midway through the first quarter when he connected with sophomore Steven White (Manchester, VA HS) for an 86-yard touchdown. White, who finished with 148 receiving yards, caught the ball at the 42-yard line and broke the tackle of Keith Blank, which left him untouched the rest of the way.

The defense shut down Ventura on their next drive when sophomore Raymon Price (Long Beach Poly HS) sacked Brandon Jones on a fourth down play. Cerritos responded with their third scoring drive of the quarter when Walker found White open in the middle of the field for a 39-yard touchdown. Before the end of the half, Walker (20-of-36, 366 yards) would find freshman Kishawn Holmes (Vista Murrieta HS) from three yards out and sophomore Dashawn Gordon (Los Alamitos HS/Northwest Oklahoma State University) for 31 yards. On the Holmes touchdown, the Falcons converted a fourth down play to Gordon.

The defense also came up with a big goal line stand in the third quarter and withstood two other Ventura drives in the red zone. But by the end of the night, the Pirates outgained the Falcons, 566-555 with Ventura running off 23 more plays.

On the night, Floyd finished with 81 yards on the ground, with Holmes adding 60 yards. Along with White's 148 receiving yards, sophomore De'Jai Whitaker (Santa Monica HS) caught six passes for 96 yards. For Walker, it marked the third straight game in which he passed for over 350 yards and has now thrown 14 touchdowns on the year with four interceptions.

Standing out on defense was sophomore Anthony Murray (Cherokee Trail, CO HS), who picked off two passes and returned a blocked extra point for a two-point conversion. Sophomore defensive tackle David Fangupo (Kealakehe, HI HS) broke through the line to block the extra point and finished the games with four tackles. Freshman Dominique Leggett (Cabrillo HS) led the team with eight tackles on the night.
