The Cerritos football team dropped a 23-7 score in their season opener

In their season-opening loss to Los Angeles Valley College, the Cerritos College football team came within 1:25 of experiencing something they never have since they started playing in 1957. The Falcons didn't score their touchdown in a 23-7 loss until late in the game and were almost shut out for the first time in school history in their season opener. Cerritos (0-1) will host Fullerton College at 6:00 p.m. next Saturday in their home opener.

The offense didn't generate any type of momentum the whole night and aside from their opening drive of the game, they didn't cross midfield until their final drive of the night.

On their lone scoring drive against the Monarchs (1-0), the longest completion was an 18-yarder from sophomore quarterback Nick Mitchell (Mount Si, (WA) HS/Oregon State University) to freshman wide receiver Jacob Gasser (Los Alamitos HS), which put the ball at the LA Valley 22-yard line. After two running plays, sophomore running back LaMarr Crowder (Cerritos HS) busted to the outside and scored from 14 yards out.

The Monarchs took advantage of two scoring strikes through the air and one on a 48-yard punt return from Ahkil Crumpton. He also pulled in a 52-yard TD pass to put LA Valley on top, 20-0 right before halftime.

Cerritos generated just 160 yards of total offense, with Mitchell completing 9-of-21 passes for just 46 yards, while sophomore running back Kishawn Holmes (Murrieta Valley HS) amassed 52 yards on the ground.

The defense was on the field for 61 plays and were led by sophomore linebacker Daniel Moore (Long Beach Wilson HS), who led all players with 12 tackles. Joining him on most of the players were linebackers Elijah Walker (Cabrillo HS) and Alex Bush (La Habra HS), who combined for 17 stops, while Walker posted three tackles for loss.
