Entering his third season (no season was held in 2020-21 due to Covid-19) as a member of the Cerritos College men’s basketball coaching staff is Rick Anderson. A local product, Anderson prepped at Long Beach Poly High, where he was an All-CIF selection. He earned a scholarship to the University of Arizona, where he played for legendary coach Lute Olson. Anderson helped the Wildcats to two PAC-10 championships (2001 & 2003) and as a senior served as the team’s co-captain with Luke Walton, with whom he maintains a close friendship.

After his collegiate career, Anderson spent four years playing internationally and spent time in Turkey and Portugal. He is the son of former Long Beach City College men’s basketball coach Gary Anderson, who spent 18 seasons at the helm of the Vikings.

Anderson began his coaching career at Cal State Long Beach, where he served as an assistant coach during the 2006-07 season, while also spending two seasons (2011-12) as an assistant at Foothill High.

Anderson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Arizona in 2003 and Master’s degree in Exercise Science from Azusa Pacific University in 2012. In addition to coaching, Anderson is also an instructor at Cerritos College.

Anderson, 42, and his wife Tricia have been married for 13 years and have an nine-year old daughter Lauren, who enjoys golfing, while also playing the piano and basketball. They reside in Los Alamitos.
