M. Soccer: Falcons go 1-1-1 at Hartnell Tournament

Playing games on three consecutive days, the Cerritos College men's soccer team went 1-1-1 at the Hartnell Tournament over the weekend. The Falcons (2-1-1) opened with a 2-1 loss to La Positas College and then followed with a 3-2 win over Los Angeles Mission College and finished with a 1-1 tie against San Diego Mesa College. The team will now play their next four games at home, starting with a 3:00 p.m. non-conference match against Golden West College on Friday.

Cerritos vs. Las Positas: The Falcons allowed an early goal to the Hawks and were forced to try and even the game. As the game progressed Las Positas added an insurance goal in the 80th minute against sophomore Ivan Martin Del Campo (Granada Hills Kennedy HS), who came on in the second half. Cerritos did get a late goal in the 85th minute when freshman Hector Jimenez (South East HS) scored on a corner kick off the foot of sophomore Edwin Corona (Cathedral HS).

Cerritos vs. Los Angeles Mission: This game, it was the Falcons who took a 1-0 lead late in the first half, as sophomore Jose Mora (Norwalk HS) chipped in a pass from Jimenez in the 42nd minute to take a late into halftime. It was a 2-0 Cerritos lead in the 65th minute as freshman Santos Granados (South East HS) scored his first of the season, with Luis Garcia (La Habra HS) getting the helper. The Eagles halved the lead in the 70th minute against Martin Del Campo, who played the whole games and came up with six saves. Cerritos regained their two-goal lead in the 86t minuet on an Oscar Canela (Paramount HS) goal, while LA Mission came right back to get within a goal before the game ended.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: The tournament closed with the Falcons needing a late goal to pull out the draw with the Olympians. Trailing 1-0 heading into the final few minutes, the offensive pressure paid off in the 88th minute, as Canela found the back of the net after receiving a nice pass from freshman Anthony Ochoa (Paramount HS). Freshman Hernan Perez (Pioneer HS) played the entire game in goal and recorded three saves.
