After helping lead the Cerritos College men's soccer team to the South Coast Conference South Division championship and a berth in the postseason, a pair of players have received accolades. Freshman defender Jose Ponce (San Pedro HS) and freshman midfielder Luis Garcia (La Habra HS) were both named 2nd Team All-West Region, as well as to the CCCSCA All-Southern Region Team.
The duo were both named 1st Team All-South Coast Conference, while Garcia was selected the division's Offensive Player of the Year. On the year, Ponce was one of the keys to the team's defense this season, which has resulted in six shutouts and a cumulative 1.19 goals against average. He also scored the team's lone goal in their 2-1 Southern California Regional Playoff loss to Golden West College.
Garcia posted five goals and tied for the team lead with nine assists, while he finished the season with a team-high four game-winning goals. He scored his goals in five separate games, while he had four-point games in both meetings against Los Angeles Harbor this season.
