Limited to just one goal over their last two matches, the Cerritos College men's soccer team found the back of the net six times in their 6-0 South Coast Conference win over host Los Angeles Harbor College on Friday night. The Falcons, who are 10-0-4 in their last 14 matches, close out their regular season next Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when they host Los Angeles City College. The South Coast Conference Tournament will open next Friday, with the Falcons (11-2-4, 5-0-3) hosting an opponent yet to be determined.
In the victory, sophomore Jose Lopez (MY Academy HS) played a role in four of the Cerritos goals, as he scored twice and assisted on two others. He accounted for the first two goals within the first 20 minutes of the game and now has a team-high 12 on the year.
It was still a close match through halftime, with the Falcons leading, 2-0. But they exploded for four second half goals to put the game out of reach. A pair of goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half extended the lead, with freshman Cesar Solarzano Garcia (California Pacific Charter HS) picking up his fourth goal just five minutes into the second half, with sophomore Felipe Moreno (St. John Bosco HS) collecting his first goal of the season just six minutes later.
The final 15 minutes of the game saw a pair of sophomores score their first goals of the season, with Jahir Vivar (Glendora HS/Mt. San Antonio College) and Taylor Demarais (Estancia HS) each finishing off a play on passes from Lopez.
The freshman goalkeeper duo of Griffin Welch (Long Beach Poly HS) and Eduardo Enriquez (Linda Esperanza Marquez HS) combining for a shutout.
