M. Swimming: Falcons suffer pair of conference losses

On Friday, the Cerritos College men's swimming team suffered a pair of South Coast Conference losses. Competing at Mt. San Antonio College, the Falcons (1-3) were defeated by both the host Mounties (229-46), while they also lost to El Camino College, 159-96. The team will travel to East Los Angeles College next Friday to take on the host Huskies and Pasadena City College at 12:30 p.m. in another conference meet.

Leading the team was sophomore Jason Ly (Villa Park HS), who turned in a pair of second place finishes overall in both backstroke events. His time of 57.76 in the 100-yard backstroke was just shy of a first place time on the day, with Mt. San Antonio's Kyle Chang besting him with a clocking of 57.45. In the 200-yard backstroke, Ly recorded a time of 2:08.74, which was only beaten by Mt. SAC's Spencer Chlebowski and his time of 2:05.92.

In the 200-yard freestyle sophomore Isiah Gaytan (Whittier HS) came in third place overall when he turned in a time of 1:59.58, while he also swam a leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished in fourth place. The quartet of Kento Anjima (Yokosuka, Japan), Nigel Rueda (Schurr HS), Gaytan and Jake Evans (Long Beach Wilson HS) recorded a time of 1:54.70.
