Led by freshman Rodrigo Baca (Kennedy HS), the Cerritos College men's swimming team took second place at the Waterman Relays this weekend. Baca, who finished in first place overall in the five-event Palomar Pentathlon on Friday, helped the team compile 502 team points to finish in second place. This Friday, the team will compete in the South Coast Conference Pentathlon, which will be held at Chaffey College.

In the pentathlon on Friday, Baca's five event total time of 2:43.08 barely edged John Dickerson of San Diego Mesa College, who finished with an overall time of 2:43.48. He posted the fastest time in the 50-yard butterfly (24.74), 50-yard backstroke (26.29) and 100-yard IM (57.57), while his time in the 50-yard freestyle (23.03) was the fourth fastest on the day. He also checked in with a time of 31.41, which was the ninth fastest out of 55 swimmers on the day,

Teammate Kevin Elizarraraz (Buena Park HS) finished in 14th place overall with a cumulative time of 2:57.44, with Joshua Guzman (Warren HS) in 18th place at 3:00.79. Elizarraraz checked in with the eighth fastest time in the 50-yard breaststroke at 31.42, while Guzman swam the eighth fastest 50-yard backstroke in 28.12.

At the Waterman Festivals on Saturday, Guzman won the 100-yard backstroke with a clocking of 1:00.68, while Baca placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.17 and in the 50-yard freestyle at 22.89. As for Elizarraraz, he took second place in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:08.04, with freshman Colson Morrow (Long Beach Millikan HS) winning the 400-yard IM by 17 seconds in a time of 4:51.06. The Falcons also won the 200-yard freestyle relay.
