The Falcon men's tennis team swept past Cypress, 9-0.

The Cerritos College men's tennis team was met with very little resistance in their 9-0 non-conference home victory over Cypress College on Tuesday. The Falcons (3-1) swept all six singles matches and lost only one game in doubles action. The team will now play their next five matches on the road and start by traveling to Orange Coast College on Thursday for a 2:00 p.m. match.

At the top of the singles ladder, freshman Nathan Eshmade (King's Baptist, Australia HS) remained undefeated after handing Brian Ortiz a 6-0, 6-1 decision. Playing his second match in the #2 position, freshman Maurice Grijalva (Gardena HS) responded with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win, while freshman Mathew Espiritu (Long Beach Millikan HS) was extended in the second set against Omar Saldivar and registered a 6-1, 7-5 victory.

Both sophomore Todd Jenkins (Cabrillo HS) and freshman Julian Avila (Paramount HS) posted 6-0, 6-0 wins, with freshman Gianni Jeong (Cerritos HS) finishing off Jeremy Daproza by a 6-3, 6-4 score.

The only drawback to the victory was Eshmade, who was forced to miss doubles action with a slight injury. It didn't slow down the Falcons, who saw Jenkins and Grijalva move into the top position and post an 8-0, as did Avila and Jeong in the #2 spot. Stepping into action to play in the #3 doubles spot were freshman Juanantonio Diaz de leon (El Rancho HS) and Danny Cho (Kennedy HS), who recorded an 8-1 victory.
