The Cerritos College men's tennis team saw three of their six singles players advance to the quarterfinals of the South Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday. The Falcons, who are hosting the three-day event, will have the three remaining singles players, as well as all three of their doubles teams competing on Friday, with the singles matches slated for 1:00 p.m.

The top eight finishers in both singles and doubles will advance to the Southern California Regional Tournament, which will take play in Ojai from April 24-25.

All six of the singles players received a bye in the first round, while the three that advanced, won their matches in straight sets. Sophomore Nathan Eshmade (Kings Baptist, Australia HS), who's seeded #1, posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jay Acosta of Mt. San Antonio College and will now take on Anthony Ya of El Camino College in his quarterfinal match. As for #2-seeded Amadi Kagoma (Malezi School, Kenya HS), he defeated Sang Kil of Mt. San Antonio, 6-0, 6-4 and now takes on Andrew Tek, also of Mt. SAC in his next match.

The third singles player to advance to the quarterfinals was freshman Sheldon Hseih (Long Beach Poly HS), who handed Calvin Hoo of El Camino a 6-3, 6-0 decision. Next up is Adrian Peralta of Mt. San Antonio.

Doubles action sees the tandem of Eshmade and Kagoma as the top-seeded team, and they will compete in their first match at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Hseih is paired with freshman Nicholas Simonelli (Long Beach Wilson HS), while sophomore Merk Herrera (Bosco Tech HS) and freshman Milos Zoric (Gimnazjia Indijija, Serbia HS) are also competing.
