Cerritos earns 7-2 win over Ventura

Hosting undefeated Ventura College in a non-conference match on Friday, the Cerritos College men's tennis team recorded an impressive 7-2 win. The Falcons (14-1) have now won 11 matches in a row and will host NCAA Division III Lake Forest (IL) College at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

In one of their toughest matches of the season, Cerritos opened the day with three solid doubles wins to take a quick 3-0 team score advantage. It was in singles play that the Pirates (9-1) picked up their game, as the top three matches were competitive from beginning to end. Although freshman Kent Hunter (Home Schooled) won in straight sets in the #1 position on the ladder, he was able to escape a tie-breaker when he posted a 7-5 win in the second set to secure the victory. Freshman Alex Prokopchuk (School 45, Ukraine) recorded a 6-3 win in the first set in his #3 match, but dropped the second set, 7-6. That forced a tie-breaker, which Prokopchuk won, 7-1 against Adrien Etiemble.

Freshman Dario Rico-Altozano (Colegio Cumbre, Spain) posted a 6-4 win in his first set against Rafael Dunan in the #5 singles match and then posted the win with a 6-3 decision in the second set. As for sophomore Kwangeun Lee (Sunny Hills HS), he registered a solid 6-2, 6-2 win in the #6 match. Freshman Victor Castro (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) suffered his first loss of the season when he was defeated in the #2 position, 3-6, 7-6, 7-10.
