Taking on NCAA Division II Concordia University on Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss. The Falcons (0-1) picked up their two points in singles victories, with one of them going to a third set tie-breaker. The team had a match scheduled with Grossmont College for this Friday, but that has been postponed until a later date.
Doubles took place first with the Eagles earning a sweep, which included a pair of 6-1 wins and a 6-4 decision in the top position against freshmen Arthur Bellegy (Lycée Molière, France) and Victor Bonsergent (Lycée Technologique Val de Saône, France).
Playing in the #1 singles position to start the season, Bellegy recorded the team's first point with a 6-3 6-1 victory over Yassine Smiej. A quartet of sweeps clinched the team win for Concordia, with the final match going to a third set tie-breaker, where freshman Luke Andrews (Columbine, CO HS) earned a 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 win in the #6 position on the ladder.
A pair of former Falcons are on the Concordia roster this season - Jan Simon and Victor Plaza-Barnils - but neither played in the match.
