A pair of the Cerritos College athletes took part in the Mt. San Antonio Combined Events Challenge over the weekend. Freshmen Aaron Martin (Carson HS) and Jake Ostgaard (La Mirada HS) competed in the 10-event decathlon over two days, with Martin finishing in third place overall out of the 12 competitors with 5598 points. As for Ostgaard, he came in seventh place with 5270 points. It was also the first ever decathlon in which Martin ever competed.

Martin earned his largest point total in the discus, as he won the event with a toss of 34.69 meters, which generated 557 points. Ostgaard excelled in several events, and won both the javelin (49.69 meters) and earned 588 points, while his time of 4:41.85 in the 1500 meters collected 669 points. He also ran the 400 meters in 52.03 to earn 723 points, which was the second fastest time.

Consistency helped Martin stay near the top of the standings, as he recorded a second place finish, one third place finish, a pair of fourth places and a fifth during the event. In addition to his second place in the discus, Martin tied for third place in the pole vault at 3.55 meters (496 points), and was fourth in both the 110-meter HH (16.48, 680 points) and 1500 meters (5:00.03, 560 points), while his height of 1.76 meters in the high jump put him in a tie for fifth place and earned 593 points.
