Cerritos College women's track and field freshman Karina Sanchez (Warren HS) posted the second fastest time in school history in the 5000 meters at the Ben Brown Invitational on Saturday. The Falcons, who only competed in two events while the rest of the team was in a four-way meet, had five entries in the event.

Sanchez, who came in 18th place in her heat of the 5000 meters, posted a time of 18:15.33, which puts her in second place in the schools top five times for that event. Last year, Tracy Bowling recorded a time of 17:47.33 to set the school record. In the heat, Sanchez was the third community college runner to finish the race, with the rest coming from four-year universities and unattached runners.

In another heat of the 5000 meters, freshman Patricia Hurley (Mark Keppel HS) came in fifth place with a time of 19:15.94, while the time of 19:05.48 by Amineh Beltran (Warren HS) put her in 14th place in her heat. Freshman Maira Solis (Roosevelt HS) ran the 1500 meters and finished in a time of 5:06.94, which was 38th out of the 87 runners in the event.
