Competing in their first meet of the season, the Cerritos College men's track and field team won four events at the South Coast Conference Opener, which was held at El Camino College on Friday. The team will host the Cerritos Open next Thursday and Friday at Falcon Stadium.

Of the four first place finishes, three of them were in field events, led by returning third place finisher at the CCCAA State Championships last season, Stacy Chukwumezie (Downey HS). He won the event with a distance of 6.75 meters, while sophomore teammate Blair Robinson (Kennedy HS) came in fifth place when he posted a distance of 6.30 meters. Freshman high jumper Christopher Lawry (Ventura HS) placed second with a height of 1.88 meters.

Cerritos took the top three spots in the triple jump, led by Robinson and his leap of 14.10 meters, with Chukwumezie in third place at 12.91 meters. Sandwiched between them was sophomore David Williams (Long Beach Poly HS), with a jump of 13.13 meters. In the throws events, freshman Jorge Gonzalez (Ventura HS) won the shot put when he posted a distance of 14.74 meters. The hammer throw netted a pair of top four finishers, as sophomore Giovanni Rubio (El Rancho HS) took third at 42.76 meters, while sophomore Aladdin Abuhadba (Downey HS) came in fourth place at 41.29 meters. Sophomore discus thrower Isaiah Chavez (Downey HS) netted a distance of 37.60 meters, which earned him a fifth place finish.

In the 400 meters, sophomore Jhamani Long (Cerritos HS) beat the field with a first place time of 50.23 meters, while sophomore Jahmal King (Bellflower HS) turned in a fifth place time of 2:00.30 to come in fifth place in the 800 meters. Sophomore Zach Munoz (La Mirada HS/Cal State Fullerton) also came in fifth place in the 110-meter HH with a clocking of 16.25.
