On Wednesday, the Cerritos College men's water polo team recorded a 16-6 South Coast Conference win over host Rio Hondo College. The win improves the Falcons record to 8-2 overall, while they are now 2-0 in conference play as they head into their one-day Cerritos Tournament on Saturday. The team opens with Chaffey College at 9:10 a.m. in a game that will serve as their conference meeting, while they close out the day with a 5:30 p.m. match against Orange Coast College.

The match against the Roadrunners was tied early on at 1-1 before the Falcons went on to score seven of the next eight goals to pull out to a comfortable lead. Seven different players accounted for those goals, with sophomore Juan Anguiano (Kennedy HS) accounting for two of the goals.

While Cerritos was opening up their big lead, freshman goalkeeper Owen Fahringer (Long Beach Millikan HS) was turning Rio Hondo away to the tune of 16 saves, with the defense adding 11 steals. Freshman Dominic Hernandez (Schurr HS), who scored twice, accounted for six of those steals, while on offense, the trio of freshman Abimael Anorve (Mira Costa HS), along with sophomores Mario Vanzillotta (Colegio Palas, Brazil) and Joey Hurtado (Cerritos HS) combined to assist on nine of the team's goals.

By the end of the game, sophomore Seamus MacDonald (Long Beach Millikan HS) led the team with four goals, while 10 players scored at least one goal, with Anguiano and Hernandez posting a pair of goals each.
