For the second time in the last four days, the Cerritos College men's water polo team recorded a win over Rio Hondo College. Last Saturday, the Falcons defeated the Roadrunners in their final game of the Golden West Tournament and then posted a 17-5 South Coast Conference opening win at home on Wednesday. Cerritos (9-3, 1-0) will host Chaffey College at 4:30 p.m. next Wednesday in another conference match.

Cerritos took a 5-0 lead after the first quarter and led, 6-0 before the Roadrunners (0-4, 0-1) got on the board. Freshman Allan Jimenez (Schurr HS) scored two of his first period goals on five-meter penalty shots and then added a third one in the fourth quarter.

They broke open a 7-2 halftime game by scoring six times in the third period, with five different players scoring. Only sophomore Abimael Anorve (Mira Costa HS) scored twice in the third quarter, with Jimenez leading the team with four goals and three steals on the day. Sophomore Richard Montanez (Baldwin Park HS) stepped up and scored three times, with four other players scoring twice, including freshman Ruben Montoya (La Serna HS), who picked up a pair of fourth quarter goals.

Sophomore goalie Rene Borja (Schurr HS) stopped 13 shots in his three quarters of action and also assisted on a pair of goals.
