Freshman third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) was a one-woman wrecking crew for the Cerritos College softball team in their South Coast Conference game against East Los Angeles College on Tuesday. Mejia went 3-for-3 with three home runs and eight RBI to lead the Falcons (26-10, 16-3) to a 10-0, five-inning mercy rule win over the Huskies (10-23, 7-12). Both outputs were school records. The team will now host ECC Compton Center at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in a conference game.
Mejia started her onslaught in the bottom of the first inning when she clubbed a three-run home run and followed that with a grand slam in the second inning. Her third at-bat resulted in a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The output now gives her seven home runs and 36 RBI on the season, while it improved her team-leading batting average to .464.
Freshman pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) tossed the complete-game shutout and allowed just four hits and struck out two batters to improve to 9-3 on the season. She escaped a second-and-third situation by recording a line drive out and a ground ball to Mejia to get out of the third inning.
On the day, sophomore outfielder Aubrey Formano (St. Paul HS/Fullerton College) and freshman outfielder Arianna Hernandez (El Rancho HS) each added an RBI in the win.
