In their final regular season game, the Cerritos College softball team clubbed three home runs in their 10-0, 5-inning win over El Camino College at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday. The win improved the Falcons record to 29-10 and 18-3 in their final South Coast Conference game, while the Warriors end their season at 16-22 and 11-10. The team will open the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs in a best-of-three series on May 4-5 against an opponent yet to be determined.
Leading the offensive attack for the Falcons was sophomore outfielder Julia Mendoza (Los Altos HS), who clubbed a pair of two-run home runs, while sophomore outfielder Aubrey Formano (St. Paul HS/Fullerton College) contributed a three-run home run. It was the first round-tripper of the season for Formano, while Mendoza now has four home runs.
In the bottom of the second inning, Formano launched her home run for a 3-0 Falcon lead, while Mendoza hit her blasts in the third and fourth innings. Freshman pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) also went 3-for-3 at the plate and pitched four innings of one-hit ball. After allowing a leadoff double to Rhea Benavente, Ramirez (11-3) retired the next 12 batters, while freshman Kat Flores (El Rancho HS) pitched a perfect fifth inning.
