The Cerritos College softball team won their fourth straight game, as they shut out East Los Angeles College, 8-0 in a South Coast Conference game at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday. The Falcons (19-12, 12-4) lead the state with 151 walks and drew six more in the win over the Huskies, with two of them coming home to aid in the win. The team will now host ECC Compton Center at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday at Nancy Kelly Field.
Leading 1-0, thanks to a home run from freshman Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) in the first inning, the duo of Jasmine Javier (Cerritos HS) and Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) started the second inning by drawing free passes. They each stole a base, which helped set up a two-out, two-run triple by sophomore outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS).
The Falcons scored in four of the five innings, with Perruccio driving in a run in the third when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and followed that by walking with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to bring home a run.
Sophomore pitcher Ana Pedroza (La Mirada HS/Caldwell (NJ) College) tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out three without issuing a walk.
