Trailing 8-0 after four innings, the Cerritos College softball team needed to get on the board against Santiago Canyon College to extend their game on Wednesday. The Falcons (3-3) scored four runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth, but were unable to complete the comeback in a 10-6 non-conference loss. The team will play their third game in as many days when they host Mt. San Antonio College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in a South Coast Conference crossover game.

In the top of the fifth inning Cerritos scored four times and it started with consecutive one-out walks to freshman outfielder Deja Sendejas (El Rancho HS) and sophomore second baseman Emma Wolff (Mayfair HS). With two outs, freshman outfielder Kayla Aros (Torrance HS) singled to load the bases for sophomore third baseman Rain Vega (La Mirada HS), who singled up the middle to keep the inning alive. Freshman first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS) brought home another run with a walk, while freshmen designated player Kayla Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) and freshman shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) added run-scoring singles.

Sophomore catcher Briana Lopez (Norwalk HS) clubbed a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to account for the Falcons other runs. Wolff drew her second walk of the game and scored on the third home run of the season by Lopez. Cerritos did threaten in the seventh inning and had a pair of runners on base after Hernandez and freshman pinch-hitter Nicoal Magdaleno (La Habra HS) each singled. But they wouldn't be able to cash in and dropped their second game in a row.

Hernandez went 3-for-4 on the day, with five other players collecting one hit against the Hawks (8-1).
