Needing a big win heading into the selection process for the Southern California Regional seeding meeting, the Cerritos College softball team posted a 6-3 win at El Camino College on Tuesday. The Falcons (22-16, 8-4) won three of their final four games to end the regular season, including their victory over the Warriors (31-9, 11-1), champions of the South Coast Conference South Division. The team must now wait until April 28 when the 18 teams are selected for the post-season.

The game was tied, 3-3 heading into the top of the seventh inning until Cerritos put three on the board to take the lead - all with two outs. Freshman outfielders Kayla Aros (Torrance HS) and Brianna Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) each singled, with freshman first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS) drawing a walk to load the bases. Freshman third baseman Kayla Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) then cleared the bases with a double, which gave her four RBI on the day.

Freshman pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) held off the Warriors in the bottom of the seventh inning and got Kassidy Robinson to strike out with a runner on second base to end the game. Gerdts (16-11) tossed a complete game while allowing three runs on six hits.

Cerritos took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning when Spoolstra led off with a double and advanced to third base on a single by Bolinas. Hernandez tied the game with a single up the middle, while sophomore second baseman Rain Vega (La Mirada HS) gave the team a 2-1 lead with an RBI single. Gerdts turned El Camino away in the bottom of the fourth inning when she retired Jazmyn Sancen with runners at first and third.
