Year in and year out, the Cerritos College softball team plays one of the toughest schedules in the state. The start of the 2019 season was no different, as the Falcons suffered a 9-0, 5-inning loss at the hands of state power Palomar College on Saturday. The team will look for their first win of the year on Tuesday when they travel to Glendale College for a 2:30 p.m. game.

The first inning was the most problematic for Cerritos (0-1), as the Comets put five runs on the board against freshman Skyler Swearingen (Mayfair HS). Aiding Palomar in the inning were a pair of Falcon errors, which led to two of the runs being unearned. A second inning error led to two of the three runs for the Comets being unearned. After the second inning, Swearingen (0-1) and sophomore Ally Udell (Whittier Christian HS) limited Palomar to just one run on one hit.

On the day, the Falcons were limited to just one hit, which came in the top of the first inning with two outs by sophomore second baseman Brianna Spoolstra (Mayfair HS). A leadoff walk to sophomore designated player Nicoal Magdaleno (La Habra HS) in the third inning and a one-out walk to Spoolstra didn't lead to any kind of offensive threat. Sophomore catcher Deja Sendejas (El Rancho HS) also drew a leadoff walk in the fifth inning, which accounted for the team's final base runner.
