Scoring early and often, the Cerritos College softball team collected 15 hits in their 11-2 South Coast Conference win over Rio Hondo College on Monday, The Falcons (5-6, 3-3), who have six games this week, are right back at it on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when they host East Los Angeles College in another conference game.

After two innings, the Falcons opened up a 5-0 lead and increased that lead to 7-0 before the Roadrunners got on the board. They closed out the scoring with four more runs in the seventh inning.

Freshman outfielder Haley Davis (Mayfair HS) led off the game with a base hit and stole second base. She moved to third on an error that put sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) on base. Sophomore first baseman Keira Bolinas (Torrance HS) then stepped up and drove in both with a single and eventually came home on an RBI base hit from sophomore second baseman Deja Sendejas (El Rancho HS).

It was Bolinas in the second inning that increased the lead, as her two-run triple with two outs plated both Davis and Spoolstra. With two outs, Davis singled and stole second base before Spoolstra drew a walk. In the fourth inning, Spoolstra singled and stole second base before Bolinas drew a walk. A single from sophomore third baseman Kayla Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) loaded the bases for Sendejas, who drove in a run with a base hit.

The big hit on the day came in the seventh inning when Hernandez hit a grand slam. Sophomore Alize Lopez (John Glenn HS/Rio Hondo College) reached on an error to lead off the stanza, with singles Spoolstra and Bolinas loading the bases. It was the first home run of the season for Hernandez.

Sendejas led the way with a four-hit game, while Bolinas (3-for-4, 4 RBI), Hernandez (2-for-4, 4 RBI), Spoolstra (2-for-3, 4 runs) and freshman Itzel Soto (Long Beach Millikan HS), who went 2-for-4, all had multiple-hit games. The trio of pitchers Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS), Skyler Swearingen (Mayfair HS) and Ally Udell (Whittier Christian HS) all saw time in the circle.
