The combination of sophomore pitcher Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) and defensive miscues by visiting Rio Hondo College, allowed the Cerritos College softball team  to post a 10-0, 5-inning win on Tuesday. Gerdts (5-1) limited the Roadrunners (5-18, 1-11) to just one hit, while the Falcons (11-11, 6-6) converted four errors into seven unearned runs. The team will host Los Angeles Harbor College at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday in another conference game.

Taking an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, Cerritos needed just nine hits to help them with the five-inning win. Sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) led off the first inning with a single, stole second base and advanced to third on an infield out. She was able to score on a fielding error by Rio Hondo second baseman Katherine Arroyo, with freshman outfielder Itzel Soto (Long Beach Millikan HS) driving in the second run.

The Falcons posted three more runs in the third inning and put the game out of reach with five more runs in the fourth inning.

Gertds (5-1) retired six in a row after a first inning walk and allowed the lone Rio Hondo hit in the top of the third inning with two outs. She concluded the game by retiring the final seven batters and faced just 17 batters on the day.

Spoolstra got the third inning started with a walk and stolen base, and then scored on a throwing error, with run-scoring singles from sophomore second baseman Deja Sendejas (El Rancho HS) and sophomore outfielder Victoria Medina (Whittier HS/Rio Hondo College) adding to the team's lead. Medina added a two-run single in the fourth inning, with Soto and freshman outfielder Haley Davis (Mayfair HS) also posting RBI singles.
