Looking to record an impactful win on Tuesday, the Cerritos College softball team was defeated by host Fullerton College, 3-0 in a non-conference game. The Falcons (17-18), who are still battling for a playoff spot, saw the Hornets (28-6) score all of their runs in the fourth inning. The team resumes South Coast Conference play on Thursday with a 3:00 p.m. game against Compton College at Nancy Kelly Field. Cerritos is currently in second place in the conference with two more SCC games remaining.

Fullerton collected four of their five hits on the day in the fourth inning, with two of the runs coming home with two outs. Freshman pitcher Skyler Swearingen (Mayfair HS) pitched into the fourth inning and was charged with all three runs to suffer the loss. Sophomore Sierra Gerdts (Montebello HS) tossed the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit.

The only offensive threat by the Falcons came in the seventh inning when sophomore shortstop Tena Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) and freshman outfielder Itzel Soto (Long Beach Millikan HS) singled with two outs. Sophomore outfielder Victoria Medina (Whittier HS/Rio Hondo College) struck out to end the game.
