Hosting Folsom Lake College their season opener on Saturday, the Cerritos College softball team was defeated, 7-2. It was lone game for the Falcons (0-1) in the SportsNetUSA.net Invitational which the team hosted at Nancy Kelly Field. It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Cerritos will now travel to Santiago Canyon College for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference game on Wednesday.

Against the Falcons of Folsom Lake, Cerritos opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After sophomore Richere Leduc (California HS), who also started the game in the circle, led off with a double, she was cut down at third base on a fielder's choice for the second out of the inning. Sophomore shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) stepped up and singled in sophomore third baseman Brooklyn Bedolla (Mayfair HS), who reached base on a single.

Leduc, who tossed a 1-2-3 first inning, was touched up for a pair of runs in the second inning, as Folsom Lake scored four times. The other two runs were scored against freshman pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS). Cerritos got one of the runs back in the bottom of the inning on a home run from Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) in her first collegiate plate appearance.

But Folsom Lake would add three more runs over the next two innings and Cerritos was unable to capitalize on several chances. They left runners on second and third in the fourth inning and had a pair of baserunners in the seventh inning.

Freshmen Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) and Jimena Delgado (Fullerton HS) each had a pair of hits for Cerritos, who finished with nine in the game. Sophomore pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS) tossed the final 3 1/3 innings without allowing a hit.
