W. Basketball: Win advances Cerritos to tournament finals

On the strength of their 54-35 win over Rio Hondo College, the Cerritos College women's basketball team has advanced to the finals of the San Diego Mesa Tournament. Win the win, the Falcons (2-0) will take on the host Olympians in the championship game at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Just as they did in their opening game, Cerritos looked to multiple players to provide offense, with sophomore forward Angela Pena (Huntington Park College Ready Academy HS) as the only player to score in double-figures with her 10 points. Off the bench, freshman Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) added eight points and five rebounds, with four different players accounting for six points.

Sophomore forward Deenesha Bee (Pioneer HS) was limited to four points, but hauled down 13 rebounds, while sophomore guard Marissa Rendon (St. Paul HS) had six assists to go with her six points. Sophomore forward Diamond Roberts (Mayfair HS) had six points and four rebounds, while freshman forward Samira Fields (Long Beach Wilson HS) accounted for six points and five rebounds. Off the bench, freshman guard Priscilla Valdovinos (Fremont HS) had six points, while freshman Alii Salone (Gahr HS) pulled down seven rebounds off the bench.
