Last year, the Cerritos College women's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the San Diego Mesa Tournament, but lost to the host Olympians. On Sunday, the Falcons easily defeated San Diego Mesa in the championship game, 65-33 to clinch the title. The team will now enter the Santa Barbara Tournament and play San Bernardino Valley College at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.

The game was out of reach from the very beginning, as Cerritos (3-0) jumped out to a 41-11 lead by halftime. Sophomore Diamond Roberts (Mayfair HS) scored a team-high 11 points and added five rebounds and three steals, while sophomore forward Angela Pena (Huntington Park College Ready Academy HS) accounted for 10 points in the win. They were the only two players to score in double-figures and marked the first time in the three games that more than one player accomplished that feat.

Sophomore Deenesha Bee (Pioneer HS) finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, with freshman Alii Salone (Gahr HS) also scored nine points and added five boards. The duo of freshman Nia Lateju (Norwalk HS) and Samira Fields (Long Beach Wilson HS) both finished with six points and combined for seven rebounds.
