W. Basketball: Tight battle with Pasadena City results in 74-62 setback

Locked in a tight battle with host Pasadena City College on Friday, the Cerritos College women's basketball team was unable to come away with a victory, as they dropped a 74-62 decision. The Falcons (7-10) will now host East Los Angeles College at 5:00 p.m. next Wednesday in another South Coast Conference crossover game.

The teams were locked in a 41-41 game at intermission, as the Falcons shot 15-for-28 (.536) from the field. Cerritos opened the third quarter with a bucket from freshman Damarie Saldivar (Paramount HS) for a 43-41 lead, while a free throw from freshman Miah Nayback (La Serna HS) extended the lead to 44-41 with 7:04 remaining in the quarter. After allowing the Lancers (10-7) five straight points, freshman Bridgette McIntyre (St. Anthony HS) converted a pair of free throws to tie the game once again, 46-46. It wasn't until their were :22 seconds remaining in the quarter before Cerritos would score again, with Pasadena City taking a 54-48 advantage into the final quarter.

The Falcons scoring drought extended for another 3:32 until sophomore Brianna Flores (Norwalk HS) scored to end an 8-0 Lancer run to start the quarter. A pair of free throws from freshman Melana Goodloe (Warren HS) with 2:27 got the team as close as they would the rest of the game (66-58), with Pasadena City closing out the game on an 8-4 run to post the victory.

McIntyre led Cerritos with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, which included a trio of three-pointers, with sophomore Ashley Miller (Paramount HS) producing 15 points off the bench. The duo of Saldivar and sophomore Cynthia Almanzar (John Glenn HS) each scored eight points, with Almanzar adding a team-high five rebounds and three blocked shots
