Wrestling: Cerritos picks up conference win

On the strength of eight wins, the Cerritos College wrestling team recorded a 32-10 Southwest Conference win over Rio Hondo College at Excelsior High on Thursday night. The Falcons evened their season record to 5-5, while they are 1-2 in conference play with one match remaining. They will host Mt. San Antonio College on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Excesior High.

A pair of pins helped Cerritos cruise to the victory, with freshman Eddie Rogers (Martin Luther King HS) winning his first match of the season at 174 pounds with a pin, while sophomore Tyree Cox (Lancaster HS) recorded a pin in his 184-pound match. Adding to those wins were convincing victories by freshman Gabe Ballesteros (Mesa, AZ HS) with his 9-0 victory at 125 pounds, with freshman Tyler Smith (Marina HS) winning his 197-pound match by a 13-4 score.

Also registering wins on the night were sophomore Joshua Ewing (Mesa, AZ HS), who won his 141-pound match by an 8-3 decision, while freshman Jose Sandoval (Paramount HS) was a 7-3 winner at 157 pounds. Freshman Dylan Clarke (Burnt Hills, NY HS), a 7-2 winner at 165 pounds and freshman 285-pound Rene Escolero (Newport Harbor HS), who picked up a 9-4 victory, were also winners for the Falcons.
