It was the fourth tournament of the season for the Cerritos College wrestling team on Saturday and it was the fourth time the team finished in second place. At the Bill Musick Tournament, which was held at Fresno City College, the Falcons amassed 133 team points, which put them only behind the host Rams, who had 139.5 team points. Next up for Cerritos, who's ranked #2 in the state, will be their final Southwest Conference match when they travel to Santa Ana College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Of the top seven team finishers, the Falcons were the only school without an individual champion. Cerritos did have four of their wrestlers advance to the finals, but were unable to post wins in their final matches, while another earned a third place finish.

Advancing to the championship match were Roland Dominguez (Downey HS) at 133 pounds, 149-pound Felix Osorio (Santa Fe HS), Armando Murillo (Rowland HS) at 165 pounds and Stone Robledo (Villa Park HS) at 174 pounds. The top-ranked wrestler at 285 pounds, Jonovan Smith (Birmingham Charter HS), sufered his first loss of the season, but rebounded for a third place result.

At 133 pounds, Dominguez opened with a 16-0 technical fall over Manuel Lopez of Simpson University and followed that with a 7-5 decision against Isaiah Marquez of Arizona Christian University, which advanced him to the semifinals. He earned a 5-4 decision over Jarret Jorgensen of Embry Riddle University, which pitted him against Adrian Chavez of Fresno City in the finals. In that match, Dominguez wasn't able escape the first period and was pinned in 2:56.

As the top seed at 149 pounds, Osorio pinned Jonah Chew of Embry Riddle in his first match before a 16-1 technical fall against Nathan Thomas of Vanguard University. In his next match, Osorio registered an 8-3 decision against Beau Beavers of Grand Canyon University to reach the championship match. Taking on Cal State Bakersfield's Cade Lucio, Osorio was defeated, 7-3.

Murillo had a smooth path to the championship match at 165 pounds, as he opened with a 14-0 major decision against Chaz Harrison of Shasta College before a pin against Aaron Lucatero of Modesto Junior College. It was another pin, this one in 3:20 against Diego Cruz of Fresno City in the semifinals that propelled Murillo to the championship match. The road to the title ended there when Hassan Khan of Sacramento City College edged him in a 6-5 decision.

The last Falcon wrestler to reach the finals was Robledo, who opened his quest by pinning teammate Cobe Hatcher (Mayfair HS) in 2:56 after they both received a first round bye. That was followed by Robledo pinning Rey Raiz of Fresno City in 4:14 in the semifinals. Robledo took on Keller Rock of Embry Riddle in the finals and dropped a major decision, 10-0.

Smith opened the 285-pound weight class with three impressing wins to reach the semifinals. The top-seed recorded a 15-6 major decision against Eliezer Mandujano of Simpson University, which was followed by a pin over Bryson Davis of Fresno City and another in 2:04 against Fritz McIntosh of Shasta College. Smith then took on eventual champion Jacob Vincent of Simpson College, who pulled out a 2-1 decision. In the third place match, Smith came back with a 5-3 win over Dalton Payne of San Joaquin Delta College.

The other Falcon to lose his first match of the season was 125-pound Jonathan Prata (Downey HS), who came in as the top seed. After pins over both Damon Looper of Modesto College and Austin Pimental of Fresno City, the defending state champion was defeated, 7-6 by Eli Griffin of Cal Baptist University in the semifinal match. Prata then defaulted out of his next two matches and settled for fifth place.
