The Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a 3-1 win over Foothill College.

Just like the did in their season opener, the Cerritos College women's soccer team used offensive pressure to take a lead. But unlike their first game, the team was able to hold on for a win, as the Falcos posted a 3-1 non-conference win at Foothill College on Sunday. The team will continue their 10-game road trip to start the season, as they make another trip North on September 7 when they play a 4:00 p.m. game at Cosumnes River College.

In the team's 2-2 tie against San Francisco City College on Friday, the Falcons (1-0-1) scored their two goals in the first 18 minutes of the game. Cerritos did score early in a half against the owls, but it was the second half, as the team took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute of the contest. Sophomore midfielder Lauren Nanez (La Mirada HS) took the ball at midfield, dribbed around two defenders to the end line and found freshman forward Claudia Ibarra (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) on the back post, and she finished off the play with a one-timer.

It was in the 65th minute that Nanez, the team's leading scorer last season, picked up her first goal of the season, as she finished off a free kick from 20 yards out by sophomore defender Karina Sandoval (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) by heading rhe ball in from the penalty kick spot. Right before extra time, freshman forward Jasmine Cornejo (Artesia HS) added an assist to her two goals on the year when she found freshman defender Demi Tavarez (Lakewood HS) at the far post and Tavarez dribbled around two defenders and scored into the far post.

Freshman goalkeeper Maria Santoyo (Universidad de Guadalajara HS) was looking for her first shutout of the season, but Foothill was able to ruin that attempt, as they scored in the 93rd minute to close out the scoring. Santoyo made four saves in the game.
