The last time the Cerritos College women's soccer team suffered a loss was on September 30, 2014 in their South Coast Conference opener. On Wednesday, the Falcons (6-1-0) were defeated, 2-0 by host Fresno City College in their final non-conference game. The team will open conference play at 2:00 p.m. when they travel to Compton to take on ECC Compton Center.
Playing without injured starting goalie Ruby Nichols (Bishop Amat HS) for the third game in a row, as well as third leading scorer Cheyenne De Los Reyes (Santa Monica HS/Santa Monica College), Cerritos got just two shots on goal against the Rams (5-2-1). The Falcons entered the game ranked #1 in the country by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and have won the last four CCCAA State Championships.
Fresno City, unranked in the nation, scored in the 27th minute and then added an insurance goal right before the end of the first half for a 2-0 lead at intermission. The Falcons defeated the Rams, 3-1 in the CCCAA state semi-final game last season.
The loss snapped a 50-match unbeaten streak (47-0-3) dating back to 2014, while the Falcons entered the game with a 77-1-4 record in the last three seasons and 99-3-6 mark covering the last four seasons.
