In their first South Coast Conference South Division game of the season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted a 2-0 win over host El Camino College on Friday. The Falcons (6-1-1, 1-0-0) dominated the game and did not allow the Warriors (2-6-1, 0-2-0) a shot on goal. The team will now host EC-Compton Center at 4:00 p.m. next Tuesday in another divisional game.

Cerritos received all of their scoring from freshman Mia Ramirez (Torrance HS), who accounted for both goals and now has nine goals on the season. She scored a goal in each half and posted six of the team's 22 shot attempts, with the Falcons putting 11 on net.

In just the second minute of the first half, Ramirez received a loose ball from freshman Claudia Soto (Chino Hills HS) and dribbled through the 18-yard box, where she saw her shot get past El Camino goalkeeper Isabel Rojas for the team's first tally. She posted her second goal in the 59th minute when freshman Tiffany Vargas (Santa Fe HS) sent a throw-in, where Ramirez took the ball from the corner of the box. Bringing the ball in tight along the goal line, Ramirez was able to get her shot off and into the far post for an insurance goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) kept a clean sheet, thanks mainly to her defense, which limited El Camino to just three shots, with none on goal. Defenders Jacky Cibrian (Legacy HS), Sophie Saouma (Esperanza HS), Brianna Yepez (Paramount HS), Jacky Beristain (Foothill HS/South Carolina State University) and Vargas played a key role in the team recording their fifth shutout of the season.
