On Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's soccer team scored seven times in the first half on their way to a 9-0 South Coast Conference South Division win over Compton. The win by the Falcons improved their record to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the division. They will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 4:00 p.m. divisional game on Friday.

Through the first 15 minutes of the game, Cerritos held a 3-0 lead with freshman Mayela Medina (Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy HS) scoring twice and sophomore Itzel Ballesteros (Maywood Academy HS) having a hand in all three with a goal and two assists. Each of the first three goals came due to the Falcons speed, as passes through the Tartar (2-8-0, 0-3-0) defense led to high percentage shots.

By the end of the first half, Ballesteros had three goals and four assists for a 10-point game. The four helpers put her in the lead in the state with 10 on the year, while her 22 points on the season moved her into the top 15 in the state and fourth in Southern California.

A late sub in the first half, freshman Alixzandra Evans (Batavia, IL HS) scored twice in less than two minutes, giving her five goals on the year. In the second half, freshman Tiffany Vargas  (Santa Fe HS) posted her first goal of the season, with sophomore Brittany Reyes (Santa Fe HS/Cal State Northridge) netting a penalty kick, which gives her five goals this year.

Freshman goalkeepers Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) and Andrea Diaz (Cerritos HS) combined for the team's seventh shutout this year and third in a row. Rodriguez wasn't required to make a save, while Diaz posted two.
