Cerritos College women's soccer sophomore Serena Camacho (Los Osos HS/UC Irvine) scored five goals and added an assist in the team's 13-0 South Coast Conference win over Compton College on Friday. Camacho, who scored the first five goals of the game, shot up to fifth in the state in goals scored (12) and is now fourth in points (31) and trails sophomore teammates Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine) and Mia Ramirez (Torrance HS), who are tied for second in the state with 36 points. The Falcons (8-0-0), ranked #1 in the country and state, will host Southwestern College (5-3-1) at 11:00 a.m. in a rare Sunday match. The team has now outscored their opponents, 50-1 on the season.
Camacho scored the only four goals in the first half, and the first five of the game, with the first coming in the sixth minute, while she capped off the half with a goal in the 34th minute when she stole the ball from Tartars goalkeeper Rosalyn Ascencio and scored into an open net. The other four goals had four different players recording an assist, while the Falcons had seven players earn at least one assist.
Carr scored a natural hat trick in the second half, with her three tallies coming in the span of 10 minutes. Three of the final four goals came from players not named Camacho, Carr or Ramirez, who posted a goal and three assists. Freshman Gabriela Jimenez (Long Beach Jordan HS) scored her first goal of the season when she fired off a shot from about 25 yards out that went under the crossbar. Sophomores Gisselle Jimenez (Long Beach Millikan HS) and Elizabeth Mendez (Long Beach Millikan HS) each scored their first goals of the season, while freshman Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS) picked up her sixth goal of the year in the 55th minute. Mendez also assisted on three goals, while sophomore Brianna Yepez (Paramount HS) picked up a pair of assists from her defender position.
Sophomore goalkeeper Deisy Rodriguez (Katella HS) still has yet to allow a goal on the season and shared the shutout with freshman Alejandra Velazquez (South Gate HS), who came on for the last 12 minutes of the match.
