Looking to become the most prolific scorer in Cerritos College women's soccer history, sophomore Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine) scored four more goals and added three assists in an abbreviated 11-0 win over Compton College on Tuesday. With only seven players for the Lady Tartars, the game lasted just 45 minutes, which was still enough time for the Falcons (17-0-0, 6-0-0) to take 34 shots, with 19 of them on net. The nation's top ranked team will now host Rio Hondo College in a 2:00 p.m. South Coast Conference crossover game on Friday.
With three more regular season games, plus the post-season remaining, Carr has amassed 37 goals and 19 assists on the year, which draws her closer to the Falcons single-season records in both categories. Back in 2014, Ashley Anaya-Webb put 42 shots into the back of the net, while her total currently ranks her tied for second with Nayeli Requejo, who was named the nation's Player of the Year that same season. The 19 helpers has her tied for fourth place, as Requejo holds the record of 28 assists in 2014. The 93 points by Carr has her drawing closer to both Anaya-Webb (101) and Requejo (102), who are the only players in school history to eclipse the 100-point barrier.
Also joining Carr with multiple goals and assists was freshman Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS), who is moving up the ranks in season assists and points. On the day, Corrilo scored a pair of goals and assisted on five others, with two of them on Carr's goals as well as the final three on goals by Serena Camacho (Los Osos HS/UC Irvine). The final three goals of the game now give Camacho 24 on the year, which is tied for third in the state, while her 64 points are second only to Carr.
Freshman Natalie Garcia (Santa Ana HS) scored the game's first goal on :20 seconds in, while the Falcons held a 4-0 lead within the first 10 minutes. With Carr, Camacho and Corrilo scoring nine of the team's 11 goals in the match, Garcia and freshman Gabriela Jimenez (Long Beach Jordan HS) posted the other two goals, while sophomore Brianna Yepez (Paramount HS) posted a pair of assists.
