W. Soccer: Sydney Carr named the state's October Athlete of the Month

During the month of October, Cerritos College women's soccer player Sydney Carr (El Modena HS/UC Irvine) scored an amazing 21 goals in eight games. In addition to her goal production, she added 10 assists and was rewarded by being named the CCCAA Female Athlete of the Month. Carr, who has already signed a National Letter of Intent with NCAA Division I Seattle University, scored four goals in a game three times during the month, which included a pair of 11-point games.

In the month of October, Carr scored more than 20 colleges did for the entire season. Through the first 17 games of season, Carr had scored goals in an amazing 15 consecutive and at least one goal in 16 of those matches. Not only did she create for herself, but she also got her teammates involved, notching at least one assist in six-of-eight games for a total of 10 assists. She twice had four-goal, three-assist games, had four hat-tricks, and three of those were four-goal performances.

Leading the team to an unbeaten season, Carr concluded the season by tying the state record with 47 goals and produced 114 points, both school records, as well. The Falcons, who were ranked #1 in the state and country for the majority of the season, saw their season come to an abrupt end when they were eliminated from the playoffs in the 3rd Round on penalty kicks against San Bernardino Valley College. Carr, who was injured in the previous game, took seven shots against San Bernardino Valley, but could not find the back of the net.

Carr is the fifth Cerritos women's soccer player to receive Athlete of the Month accolades, while the Falcons continue to lead the state with 11 all-time women's selections.
