A goal in the first six minutes, coupled with a solid defensive performance, led the Cerritos College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over visiting Long Beach City College on Tuesday. Winners of two games in a row, the Falcons (4-3-1) will travel to El Camino College on Friday for a 2:00 p.m. match.

In what would turn out to be the lone goal of the game, sophomore Gabriela Jimenez (Los Angeles Jordan HS) scored on a long free kick from the left side on a pass from by sophomore Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS). The shot went past Vikings (5-3-0) goalkeeper Almareli Quintero, which would turn out to be all the offense needed.

Receiving a solid defensive effort from freshmen Aubree Stevens (Pacifica HS), Alessandria Ramirez (Warren HS) and sophomore America Ontiveros (Santa Ana HS), the Falcons limited Long Beach City to 10 shots, with four on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Liza Cisneros (Bellflower HS) was in position to turn away all four shots to earn the shutout win.

Missing several great scoring chances was freshman McKenzie Cooper (Temescal Canyon HS), who fired a loose ball at the goal and saw it hit the crossbar in the 70th minute, while her shot in the 79th minutes rolled and hit the right post.

Cerritos controlled the midfield and maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the game. They were turned away on numerous chances, as passes were deflected away or passes just missed out on connecting.
