Using her powerful and accurate foot, freshman Alessandra Ramirez (Warren HS) scored a pair of identical goals in the second half to lead the Cerritos College women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over El Camino College on Friday. The win by the Falcons (5-3-1) was their third in a row, as the team will host Compton College at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0, Ramirez set up for a free kick from 40 yards out and lined a shot under the crossbar and out of reach of Warriors (2-5-3) goalkeeper Joelle Niimi in the 66th minute. El Camino had taken a 1-0 lead despite the Falcons attacking the net, but were coming up empty.

After Ramirez scored her first goal of the game, the same situation presented itself and in a carbon copy of the first goal, she gave the team a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. The goal by Ramirez in the 76th minute was also from 40 yards out and was her third goal of the season.

Freshman Liza Cisneros (Bellflower HS) got the call to start the game in goal and kept El Camino off the scoreboard in the first half and was not asked to make any saves. Cerritos looked more like their teams from previous years, as they controlled the tempo of the game and fired shots at the Warriors net. They finished with 19 on the day, with eight of them on net.

In the second half, freshman Melanie Corona (El Rancho HS) took over goalkeeping duties and earned the win after allowing one goal and making a pair of saves.

Ramirez led the offensive attack with seven shots, while the duo of Valeria Corrilo (Dominguez HS) and Rayleen Chavez (Costa Mesa HS) each took three shots.
